Nigeria is such a dangerous place to live in. This guy just died right in front of my eyes here at Choba, Port Harcourt!

I was on my way to my Sunday evening web programming class when this happened. As I stepped out from the cab, a car drove past me on high speed, on reverse. If I had stepped out from the right door, it would have been a different story for me. The Sienna vehicle on high reverse was determined to escape from whatever was chasing it. I stood there, wondering what could be responsible for such reckless lawlessness.

It maneuvered past the first car, missed the second, and was about to make a straight run when it hit a bike behind it. The bike was on its right lane and was on speed. The collision created an explosion and in few seconds I was dumbfounded by the effect. I quickly ran my eyes across the road to find water or something that could serve as an extinguisher, I found a bucket of water across a vulcanizer’s shop, I ran, grabbed it and straight to the bike, I poured it all. It made no difference, other people did the same thing, some poured sand and sachet water. The fire from the fuel tank increased. For a moment, I knew this was serious, the guy did not move. In such a short time, he was completely paralyzed and burnt, he bled seriously from the head. He was helpless and dying. He died.
For a while, I was brainstorming, do I have an emergency number on my phone, ambulance, Police, medics? No. What about the other people around me? No either. For the next thirty minutes and even more (before I left), we all just gathered and stared, helplessly. The guy was gone.

That dead guy could have been anybody else. Innocent, but yet caught up in web of reckless lawlessness.

What really happened in the first place? From what I heard, the Sienna car was loading on the road (which was wrong), a police van approached it, it tried to escape, in the process of escaping, it killed this guy.
