How Akinade died, by son

I want to rest, tell the church to keep on the firing line as there is no reason to mourn, continue in the word, worship and other activities of the church”.

These were the last words of General Overseer of Lion of Judah Worldwide Evangelical Ministries (LOJWEM), Rev Elijah Akinade, who died penultimate Saturday at an Abuja hospital.

His son, Obafemi Akinade, who was on his sick bed at the Federal Government Hospital, Abuja, said his father was in high spirit as he confronted death.

The late Akinade, who was fondly called Baba Lion, according to the Administrative Director of the church, Evangelist Adesegun,  had been in Abuja fasting for some time.

Adesegun said the deceased church founder suddenly fell ill on Friday night and was immediately rushed to the hospital around 4: 00am on Saturday.

He later died few hours later.

Born in 1954 in Ibadan, the late Akinade was described as a miraculous child. His parents, it was gathered, lost many children before him.

But he survived and went to work with Coco-Cola Nigeria Plc and later entered the ministry.
He was on radio and television for over three decades.

The late cleric started out as a gospel musician and was a founding member of Gospel Musician Association of Nigeria (GOMAN).

He was ex-national Vice President and ex-Chairman GOMAN, Oyo State chapter.
Tributes have started pouring in for the deceased.

Prophet Moses Kasali, in his tribute, said “O my dear prophet Akinade you have really fought a good fight on earth and I know Jesus Christ, himself knows and evangelism recognised you and your work on earth.  But you left us at a ripe age nevertheless rest in the blossom of the Lord”.

The General Overseer of the Go Ye Ministries, Rev James Iyanda, said: “we can’t forget your leading role in the body of Christ in Nigeria, in the south west; especially those great testimonies still speaks to the end. You are indeed in a Hero in the kingdom of God.
