Again, We Lose Another Shining Light and Leader
With a heavy heart and submission to the will of Almighty God,I, Oladimeji Olayinka Segelu, on behalf of the good people of Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency and indeed the generality of Oyo people in particular and Yorubas in general commiserates with the family, friends, citizens of Ibadan, the people and Government of Oyo State, and the Nation as a whole on the painful, untimely and destabilizing demise of Alhaji Abdul-Azeez Arisekola Alao (CON) who until his demise was the Deputy President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland. The deceased had made his mark as a religious and political leader, philanthropist, community leader and a business mogul thereby cementing his reputation as a pillar of strength and a rallying point in Yorubaland.
Born on February 14, 1945, his sudden departure at the age of 69 has created a large vacuum difficult to fill. Perhaps his enduring legacy was his love for Ibadan land and Oyo state that has led him to expend time, resources and energy to ensure that only the best was good enough for Oyo. Always a team player, it is on record that since 1978 when he made his incursion into politics as an impressionable young man, he had always teamed up with like-minds in protecting the interests of the masses. Though not officially a member of any political party, Alhaji Arisekola Alao was always influential in determining who became the Governor of Oyo state from 1979 till date. It is to his eternal credit that he never intervened in politics for personal aggrandizement or private gains but for altruistic values.
Oladimeji Olayinka Segelu described him as a quintessential community and religious leader, the departed was an embodiment of outstanding personality whose philanthropic gestures transcended ethnic, religious and geographical boundaries; all in his determination to provide for the welfare of the masses and reduce the sufferings of the indigent people in the society.
Aare was not just a giver, he was a humanist and he displayed this virtue by assisting the poor by giving them economic empowerment, scholarships for indigent students, provision of places of worship and other infrastructures in various communities. His empathy for the needy was as legendary as they were infectious. There are no adjectives to describe the stability he engendered as a religious leader as he constantly preached mutual and peaceful co-existent across all divide.
My prayer is that God will grant us all especially his family therequisite fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. While we draw inspiration from his legacies, we pray Almighty Allah grant his blessed soul perfect rest. May all he left behind enjoy adequate protection of God.
