At least three persons were yesterday confirmed dead with properties worth millions of naira destroyed when fire gutted the popular Mile 12 market in Ketu area of Lagos State.
Our correspondent gathered that two dead bodies were initially removed from the inferno by firefighters who were seen battling to put out the fire before another dead body was later recovered.
As the fire raged, about 20 shops were torched and this has thrown many people out of their businesses.
Witnesses at the market said the outbreak erupted at the oil and fuel station of the market.
Apart from the 20 shops, five motorcycles, a car, three buses and two trucks were also consumed by the inferno.
It was further gathered that the impact of the fire was profound because the marketers stored petroleum products in their shops.
Confirming the fire outbreak, the general manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said that from the initial investigation conducted, it was revealed that petrol and diesel stored in the shops led to the outbreak.
He added that four vehicles, five motorcycles and two trucks were consumed by the inferno.
